PROJECT Description

"A Smoke Behind the Rope" is a thought-provoking play that draws inspiration from actual events and characters, shedding light on the ongoing execution of political activists. While the play does not depict these events precisely or directly represent specific individuals, it seeks to bring attention to the dark and oppressive realities faced by political dissidents under the dictatorial authorities.

It revolves around the conversations between a boy and a girl who are spending their final night in prison and are scheduled to be hanged the following day, delving into the unique circumstances they find themselves in during the last hours of their lives.

CHARACTERS:

Golnaz is a young girl in her twenties. She was a third-grade student in the College of Engineering and an activist. She has been imprisoned for one year.

Farhad is a young man in his twenties, a graduate of theatre college, and a political activist. He has been imprisoned for two years.

The actors needed for these roles should be in their twenties, or look like twenties, with average height and weight. It is essential that they have good physical movement abilities, and Gulnaz should also have the ability to sing. It is preferred that both actors have professional acting experience and are fluent in the English language.

In addition to their primary characters, the actors will also portray multiple roles.
